ABSTRACT
Objective: To study the degree of knowledge about the prescription of Physical Exercise (PE) to patients with cardiovascular risk among health professionals of Primary Care of the Region of Murcia (Spain).
Methods: Comparative cross-sectional descriptive observational study, carried out in 32 Health centers in the Region of Murcia and in which health professionals, doctors and nurses participate. 476 doctors and 327 nurses were included. A questionnaire was applied in which the variables analyzed were level of global and specific knowledge by pathology blocks (lipids, diabetes, hypertension, obesity and generalities) on prescribing PE to patients with cardiovascular risk, as well as variables related to quality of prescription of physical exercise.
Results: It is appreciated that doctors tend to score higher values compared to nurses, on knowledge of the prescription of physical exercise in all subscales, showing statistically significant differences in global knowledge (p ‹.001), lipids (p ‹.01 ), diabetes (p ‹.001), AHT (p ‹.05), and generalities (p ‹.05). There are no differences in obesity (ns).
Conclusions: There is a low level of knowledge about the prescription of physical exercise among primary care professionals.
