ABSTRACT
Objectives: To determine the improvement of the quality of life in patients that attend a Program of Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) measured with the Health Survey (SF36) and, to determine if the change obtained is associates to improvement in functional capacity measure with the Six-minute Walk (6MW) Performance. Methods: 60 subjects enrolled in the CR Program, were selected prospectively to fulfill the survey SF36 at the begin and at the end of 10 weeks of exercises of phase II of CR program. Results: 60 patients (73% men; age average = 55 ± 9 years) were included. The average Score to income at program was of 514 in women and 595 the men (p ‹ 0.05 women versus men). An increment of 68 points in women and 67 in men (p ‹ 0.05 both groups) were obtained in the Second survey. The greater improvement of quality of life was obtained in men with prior Cardiac event. Major impact items were: social factor, emotional problems and vitality, with p ‹ 0.05 in all. The only difference was in the limitations in the role, in which the men improved more than the women (p ‹ 0.05). The increment in the 6MW had a significant correlation with the increment in the quality of life measured by the Score SF36 (p = 0.01 for both). Conclusions: The improvement in the quality of life through the survey SF36, is a good indicator to determine the efficacy of CR program.
