ABSTRACT
Background: Since its introduction at the end of the decade of the eighties, laparoscopic surgery has been slowly incorporated into medicine as a therapy of minimum invasion in general surgery. In Urology, it has reached an important popularity since the first intervention to diagnose cryptorchidism in 1976. In 1990, Clayman performed the first laparoscopic nephrectomy.
Objective: To present a case of laparoscopic nephrectomy.
The case presentation: It was a case of a male patient being 53 years old, with a surgery precedent due to a broken aortic aneurysm since one year before. The patients goes to medical revision informing about renal-vascular hypertension. At this moment, it was found a left renal artery stenosis and the patient was subjected to a laparoscopic nephrectomy.
Results: Left retroperitoneal nephrectomy without any kind of complications.
Conclusion: Nephrectomy through laparoscopy reduces pain and intrahospital postoperative stay.
