ABSTRACT
A new type of human coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2 causing COVID-19 disease, which manifests itself as a respiratory tract infection, has been the
cause of a worldwide alarm state. SARS-CoV-2 is an RNA virus belonging
to the
Coronaviridae family, as well as the previous acute respiratory
syndrome caused by coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and the respiratory
syndrome of the Middle East (MERS-CoV). The source of the virus is not
known with certainty, but it is associated with wild animals such as bats and
intermediary reservoirs such as pangolin, snakes, and mink. The main
contagion occurs through respiratory droplets and contact routes with
people who have respiratory symptoms. The people most susceptible to
presenting the most serious manifestations of the disease are those with
comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular
diseases and chronic respiratory diseases. Therapeutic management
focuses on supportive measures and some drugs have undergone clinical
trials to observe efficacy against SARS-CoV-2.
