ABSTRACT
Knee pain is sometimes caused by alterations of the lower limbs that result from errors at the moment of support, either in a prone or supinated position, according to the increase in valgus or varus of the calcaneus.
Objective: To determine the anatomical and functional condition of the base of support as a main factor of knee injuries in the basketball players of the Federation del Guayas.
Material and methods: This is a study with a descriptive focus, quantitative approach, of non-experimental type and transversal design, whose population sample is 27 players.
Results: It is demonstrated that the foot cavus was the alteration with greater percentage in both the right foot (70.37%), and in the left foot (66.67%) and patellar tendinitis is the pathology that predominated in the footstep pronated with 14.89%, followed by external non-specific knee pain with 10.64% in the same type of footstep.
Conclusion: The support of the players was mostly directed towards the hindfoot with footsteps in pronation, this poor positioning of the foot structures triggered biomechanical alterations where the charges distribution and the force of impact is absorbed by the elements that make up the knee.
