ABSTRACT
COVID-19 is a disease that can be asymptomatic or characterized by cough, shortness of breath, and fever, causing pneumonia in some cases that can lead to death. There is currently no evidence that coronaviruses can transmit by transplanting tissue, cells, or transfusions, so measures in response to this are precautions, motivating continuous regulatory updating for the corneal tissue management procedure and corneal transplantation, based in the criteria adopted by various associations. This provides the security of obtaining corneal tissue through strict eligibility criteria supported by guidelines issued and studied, thus guaranteeing the protection of recipient patients. You must perform RT-PCR both in the donor (before death and up to 24 hours after death) as in the recipients. Although at the moment there is a temporary suspension of organ and tissue donation and transplantation programs nationwide and only corneal transplants are considered in urgent situations, the evaluation of the conditions in which the gradual start of the normal activity of corneal donations-procurement and transplant activity, minimizing the risk to recipients and health personnel involved.
