ABSTRACT
Background: the jigsaw puzzle flap was described by Goldberg in 2005 to repair nasal-wing defects. Then, it was used successfully to repair defects in other anatomical areas of the face and retroauricular region.Materials and methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out, which included 12 patients reconstructed with the jigsaw puzzle advancement flap. The epidemiological characteristics, the surgical technique, the anatomic location and the final size of the postsurgical defect, post-surgical complications and final results were analyzed.
Results: of the 12 patients analyzed, five presented the tumor in the nasal ala, two in the nasal wall, four in the upper lip, and one in the tragus. No post-operative complications were observed. In 11 patients, good results were obtained, and one patient presented an increase in the thickness of the nasal ala.
Conclusions: The jigsaw puzzle advancement flap is a versatile surgical option that can be used in several anatomical areas of the face. We propose its use to repair tragus defects with satisfactory results.
