ABSTRACT
Primary amenorrhea study takes in consideration the sexual characteristics development and secondary amenorrhea can be diagnosed according moment of its apparition, the years of age and pathology associated. Thus, primary amenorrhea does to suspect the existence of gonadal dysgenesis, Turner’s syndrome of Turner, pituitary tumor, undescended testes and before development the secondary sexual characteristics should suspect a congenital agenesis of the uterus and vagina. Secondary amenorrhea is caused mainly by pregnancy and once discarded, the most frequent causes are the polycystic ovary syndrome, hypothalamic and pituitary dysfunction, and by a thyroid disease. A correct clinical evaluation and imaging tests help to establish the diagnosis of majority of the cases.
