ABSTRACT
Hyperglycemia is associated with increase in morbimortality, costs and length of stay in the intensive care unit. The intensive control of glucose using an insulin infusion guided by a protocol, has demonstrated with scientific evidence a decrease in costs, length of stay in the intensive care unit, complications and mortality. The present revision of the literature pretends to update the medical community in this subject.
