ABSTRACT
Epidural hematoma, also known as extradural hematoma, is the accumulation of blood in the space outside the dura. Of all spinal hematomas that occur from 0-20 years, 75% correspond to the cervico-thoracic spine. The causes vary according to age, and it is the spontaneous (idiopathic) origin that has been found most frequently. Pain and tenderness at the neck level (torticollis) is the most frequently reported symptom, however in infants, irritability and crying may be the only symptom. Early diagnosis and neurosurgical intervention are essential for successful management and favorable prognosis in all cases. A case of a 2-year-old male patient due to pregnancy 1 is presented, which begins his condition with limitation of axial neck movements, irritability as well as data on upper respiratory tract infection and neck movements with a constant whiplash effect when the patient wanted to obtain something for their benefit, to the 15-point Glasgow neurological examination, with neck stiffness such as meningeal data are carried out cabinet studies in which the presence of thoracic cervical epidural hematoma is evidenced, by which it is decided to perform surgical management. The importance of this pathology is that it is a medical emergency since the evolution of the patient depends on the early diagnosis and treatment of the neurosurgeon, so the experience in our institution with this case is presented, as well as the resolution of the same.
