ABSTRACT
Septic hip arthritis is a surgical emergency, if diagnosis and treatment is delayed permanent sequelae could result.
Goal: To know clinical results of treatment of sequelae of septic hip arthritis of the hip.
Methodology: It´s a retrospective, observational and descriptive study.
Results: From January 1998 to December 2005 at Hospital de Traumatología y Ortopedia Lomas Verdes IMSS, Mexico 14 patients were selected, with a mean follow-up of 10.2 years. We used Hunka’s classification and evaluated functional results with hip range of motion, pain and limb-length inequality. There were 3 type IIA hips (21.4%) all with good results; 5 type IIB hips (35.7%) three with good results and two regular; 3 type IVA hips (21.4%) two with good results and one regular. Finally 3 type V hips (21.4%) one with good result and two regular.
Conclusions: Generally speaking clinical results are satisfactory at the moment of clinical exploration, however prognosis is uncertain for function at long term.
