ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine and compare dmfs and DMFT indexes in a disabled population considering that the lack of manual and intellectual dexterity can lead to these patients not achieving the minimum, necessary oral hygiene actions.
Materials and Methods: An epidemiological survey of dmfs and DMFT indexes was carried out with students from four special attention institutions. Patients were grouped by their disability: Autism Spectrum (AUT), Down Syndrome (DS), Mental Retardation (MR), and Cerebral Palsy (CP). Descriptive statistics and significance analysis between the groups (Kruskal- Wallis test) were performed on the data.
Results: The dmfs score of the sample was of 1.42. The group with the highest dmfs was the DS, with a 2.11 score. The DMFT score of the total sample was of 1.81. MR was the group with the highest DMFT score with 2.11 points. There was no statistical significance between the groups, disability and indexes.
Discussion: There were “low” levels of dmfs and DMFT, except for the patients with CP (motor disability that affects muscular tone and movement).
