ABSTRACT
Introduction: Intraoperative pain is an expected consequence following tooth extraction.
Objective: To compare the frequency and intensity of intraoperative pain experienced by healthy, diabetic and hypertensive patients during conventional dental extractions.
Materials and Methods: 106 patients who attended the clinic No. 10 IMSS from June 2014 to January 2015, indicating dental extraction were included. The measurement to determine the intensity of intraoperative pain was performed with the Visual Analog Scale Heft-Parker. Intraoperative pain related variables such as age, gender, preoperative pain, intraoral edema, systemic diagnosis, dental diagnosis, number of tooth roots extract and amount of anesthetic cartridges used were recorded.
Results: Significant differences were found in the intensity of intraoperative pain. Healthy and diabetic patients referred in general "no pain", while patients with hypertension showed greater presence of pain, referring to a 'slight pain. " (P ‹.05).
Conclusions: Hypertensive patients experience more intense pain during dental extractions conventional healthy patients or diabetics.
