ABSTRACT
Objective: To analyze a series of patients with Guillain-Barre syndrome.
Material and Method: A prospective study was done analyzing a series or patients
with Guillain-Barre syndrome in the years of 2016 and 2017 at Zone General Hospital
71 Benito Coquet Lagunes and the National Medical Center Adolfo Ruiz Cortines of
Veracruz, Mexico. Patients were submitted to neuroconduction studies based on Ho
and Hadden criteria. The main clinical subtypes, neuroconduction patterns, cranial
nerve involvement and the etiological agents identified were analyzed.
Results: There were reported 35 cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome, from which 30
were submitted to neuroconduction studies. The most frequent neuroconduction pattern
was acute demyelinating inflammatory polyneuropathy, as well as other variants,
such as Miller Fisher’s syndrome and facial diplegia, the latter in correlation with the
most affected cranial nerve that was the VII.
Conclusions: It was noticed the existance of other clinical variables, such as
Miller-Fisher syndrome, as well as the involvement of the VII cranial nerve with a
analizacase
of facial diplegia, constituting a rare variant of Guillain-Barre syndrome, but
these variants should always be taken into consideration during the outbreaks of
this disease.
