ABSTRACT
Pelvic osteomyelitis is considered an unusual presentation, implying a different approach for definitive diagnosis. The clinical case of a 9-year-old male is presented, who two weeks prior to admission had intermittent fever and general malaise; then presented limitation in the left pelvic member. Imaging studies concluded in ischial osteomyelitis diagnosis. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was isolated in the blood culture and culture of the lesion. It was managed with vancomycin, leaving four weeks later for improvement.
Osteomyelitis at the pelvic level requires early diagnostic suspicion and a timely surgical medical approach for a good prognosis of function.
