ABSTRACT
The incidence and prevalence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) have increased each year throughout the world. The development of ESRD is associated with a substantial reduction in health-related quality of life and premature death. Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice for ESRD, as it extends survival, improves quality of life and is less costly than dialysis. The half-life of cadaveric kidney survival after the first year varies in a statistically significant way with the number of incompatibilities for the six antigens of HLA-A, -B and -DR loci. Cadaveric donors completely matched for the 3 loci (six antigens) with recipients having their first transplant were shown to have 10-year survivals of 65 %. We have a data base of HLA frequencies HLA-A,-B,-DR (HLA class I and class II) so we can provide the physicians with this important information, so they can find the best matched recipient. The results of frequencies are similar to those reported from other groups in our country.REFERENCES
