ABSTRACT
Urban resilience is the capacity of a city, exposed to threats to resist, absorb, adapt and recover from its effects in a timely and efficient manner, including the preservation and restoration of its basic structures and functions, articulation and capacity. of management of national and local actors. The lesson learned after the passage of hurricane SANDY by Santiago de Cuba showed the need to prioritize the elevation of urban resilience in the capital of the country and the provincial capital cities with the largest population, considering the correspondence between their exposure to different hazards, the high population densities, the concentration of patrimonial, economic and services, infrastructural and cultural values.
In view of this situation, the Cuban government, accompanied by UNDP, formulated the cooperation project: "Contribution to the elevation of urban resilience in the main cities of Cuba" which, together with the efforts made by the country, constitutes the main management strength in the reduction of disaster risk.
Within the framework of the region of the Americas, the member states of PAHO have advocated for the participatory construction of the 2016-2021 Action Plan in order to achieve a resilient health sector.
The objective of the work is to promote ways of contribution of the Cuban Public Health sector to increase urban resilience in health services.
