ABSTRACT
The text presents an analysis of the evolution of artificial limbs in Mexico with the objective of assessing the scientific and technological contribution of these devices to national medicine, as well as worldwide. In the text, we highlight the participation of two main Mexican characters in the nineteenth century who, with their inventions, constituted a true medical technological revolution in the development of these devices in Mexico and in the world. Both raised the need to prevent, treat and rehabilitate with the supply of orthopedic appliances (including limb prostheses), injuries and diseases of an orthopedic nature in the bodies of civilians and soldiers. We conclude that, thanks to these contributions, we currently have a community of researchers and manufacturers of artificial members productive in our country, minimizing the problem of disability among the population because of the violence, congenital diseases and traffic or domestic accidents.REFERENCES
