ABSTRACT
In efforts to reduce infectious diseases associated with medical care, the World Health Organization (WHO) has established global strategies, one of them being hand hygiene (HM). The purpose was to evaluate the change in frequency and improvement in the technique of hand hygiene (HM) in relatives of pediatric patients hospitalized in a hospital in Mexico City. Material and methods: Longitudinal study of pre and post with relatives of hospitalized patients. Primary caregivers who were in the care of the child were selected for at least 80% of the intrahospital stay, the Department of Social Work (DTS) and Epidemiology selected and trained a group of social workers in the subject of HM, these gave theoretical education and practice to the caregivers of the patients and was evaluated through a validated questionnaire and through the observation of the HM technique after the educational intervention. Results: Significant changes were found in the knowledge and applied technique on hand hygiene. Conclusions: Applying a theoretical-practical individual educational intervention in the parents on the correct process for hand hygiene allows a better maneuver on the part of the caregivers.REFERENCES
