ABSTRACT
Introduction: Chronic urticaria is defined as the appearance of wheals or hives in a transient form associated with pruritus and/or angioedema, lasting longer than six weeks, its prevalence ranges from 0.05 to 5%.
Objective: To estimate the prevalence of chronic urticaria in the patients that come to consultation of the Allergy and Clinical Immunology service of the University Hospital of Puebla.
Material and methods: A cross-sectional, observational, descriptive, analytical and prolective study was carried out. Descriptive statistics were estimated as frequencies, percentages and dispersion measurements.
Results: 63 patients were included, the average age was 41.6 years (SD 19.7), 68.2% were women. The prevalence of chronic urticaria was 4.78%, the average duration in weeks was 209.1, the most frequently affected areas were: face, mouth and extremities. Of the total of patients with chronic urticaria, 38.1% had angioedema.
Conclusion: The sum of the results of this study are condensed in terms of that, although it is true that the prevalence of chronic urticaria is similar to that reported in different literatures, the results presented here highlight the particularity of the demographic provenance and its extremely long duration.
