The surgery cancellation like a quality of medical care index

ABSTRACT

The surgery cancellation is a frequent problem in the public hospital with affectation of the quality of medical care. The objective of this article is to know the incidence and the causes of the surgery cancellation in a general hospital of Mexico City. We classified the causes in two groups: structure and process. We reviewed the charts of 15,833 patients with programmed surgery in a two and a half years period, 645 were cancelled, equivalent to index of 4.07% and corresponds as regular.
In the hospital we planned some actions to improve this index.
