ABSTRACT
Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum progesterone level on the
day of oocyte retrieval and pregnancy outcomes in patients undergoing IVF.
Materials and Methods: Prospective cohort study of IVF-ICSI cycles, with long or
antagonistic agonist protocol and with fresh embryo transfer on day 2-3. We proposed a
serum progesterone level on p90 on day of oocyte retrieval. The main outcome analysed
are biochemichal and clinical pregnancy and first trimester miscarriage.
Results: 400 cycles of IVF-ICSI were studied, with long agonist protocol (n = 41) or
antagonist (n = 359) and with fresh embryo transfer on day 2-3. Pregnancy rate was
similar in both groups (41
vs 40.2%) and clinical pregnancy rate was lower (30.8
vs
33.5%), but it wasn’t statically significance. There was more miscarriage in elevation
progesterone group (25.7
vs 43.8%), but it wasn´t statiscally significance.
Conclusion: Progesterone elevation on oocyte retrieval are not associated with the
IVF outcome, but there is a trend to lower clinical pregnancy and more miscarriages.
