ABSTRACT
Different studies have confirmed the influence of the human leukocyte antigens (HLA) matching on graft survival and the strong association of these molecules with certain diseases. Over the last few years, new HLA typing methods have been developed based on molecular techniques, which offer flexibility of resolution, improved reproducibility and greater accuracy compared to traditional serological methods. The aim of this review is to compare the serological and molecular methods, showing their basis, advantages and experimental results.
