ABSTRACT
Clinical Laboratory is undergoing extremely rapid changes. Educational programs are now becoming obsolete and require the inclusion of new scientific concepts and technological competences for the current professional performance. Furthermore, a clinical chemist must acquire new skills and qualifications for modern tasks of the profession, such as multi disciplinary teamwork with other clinical disciplines, management competence and continuous interchange of ideas. We are presenting here an overview of the core fields in which today’s clinical chemists should be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience. The proposal presented should facilitate to the Universities the changes needed to be done in their curricula for improving the future teaching and training in clinical chemistry in Mexico and Latin America.
