RESUMEN
Con los notables cambios que ha experimentado el laboratorio clínico en los últimos años, los programas educativos en el área se han vuelto obsoletos y requieren una revisión que incluya los nuevos conceptos científicos y competencias tecnológicas que demanda el desempeño profesional actual. Debe reconocerse además, que el profesional del laboratorio clínico debe adquirir nuevas capacidades y habilidades para desarrollar sus funciones, en particular el trabajo en el equipo multidisciplinario de salud, la gestión de recursos y la comunicación y el intercambio de ideas. En este artículo presentamos los contenidos centrales que un programa de postgrado en Ciencias de Laboratorio Clínico debe tener, en términos de conocimientos, habilidades, actitudes y experiencias. Esta propuesta pretende facilitar a las universidades e instituciones de educación superior la revisión de sus planes y programas de estudio y mejorar la enseñanza y entrenamiento en las ciencias del laboratorio clínico en México y América Latina.
