ABSTRACT
Purpose: Identify the frequency and characterize the vascular anatomical variants of the aortic arch and supra-aortic trunks.
Material and Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study. A total of 675 MDCT were performed. It was categorized by the classification by Natsis et al. and the classification of the Edwards.
Results: It was observed that 435 patients (64.4%) had the classic configuration (type I of Natsis et al.), followed by type II with 184 (27.3%). Four other types of configuration of the were identified, observing 10 cases of aberrant right subclavian artery. Likewise, two cases (0.3%) of right arches of specular distribution (Edwards type 1), were identified, one of them being associated with anomalous origin of the pulmonary arteries through the descending thoracic aorta.
Discussion: In this series of cases, the types of aortic arch I, II and III were the most frequent. In addition, four other types were found that had not been described in the literature, identifying a greater frequency of vascular variants/abnormalities compared to similar studies.
Conclusion: Vascular variants are frequently observed. By demonstrating this, the physician’s knowledge will be undermined, thus favoring a finer analysis of the vascular nets.
