ABSTRACT
Introduction: Occupational risk factors are conditions that exist within the workplace; if not eliminated, they will have as a conse-quence occupational accidents and/or occupational diseases.
Objective: To identify determinants of ergonomic risk for the development of musculoskeletal disorders of the upper limb.
Material and method: A cross-sectional study, with the authorization of the local research committee; information was obtained from files that included the ST-9 format (medical care notification and work-related disease classifica-tion) and clinical history, complete work chart history, in the Occupa-tional Health Service of Family Medicine Unit 28 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security in Mexicali, Baja California, in the period 2014-2015.
Results: 68 files were analyzed, 76% were women, aver-age age 43.66 ± 10.66 years, and the most frequent ergonomic risk factors were: forced postures (22.05%) and repetitive movements (14.7%). The most frequent disorders were tendinitis de Quervain (30.88%) and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (22.05%), 29.41% did not present associated comorbidity. In seniority in the workplace we obtained that 30.88% had more than 4 years and 25% less than one year.
Conclusions: It is important to evaluate the work position and the individual characteristics of the worker, implement prevention and control measures in order to reduce the increase in disorders related to ergonomic factors.
