ABSTRACT
Plants are sessile organisms that are exposed to a variety of stimuli, such as biotic,
abiotic factors, and hormonal regulation. These stimuli are perceived by membrane
receptor, which triggers the activation of signaling pathways and, therefore, the
regulation of biochemical and cellular mechanisms. The endocytosis of membrane
proteins is one of the regulatory key steps in various control mechanisms that cells
have developed to attenuate, modulate or inhibit cellular responses. The present
review recapitulates information on the best characterized receptors and membrane
proteins in plant cells in the context of endocytosis in response to biotic, abiotic and
hormone factors.
