ABSTRACT
Introduction: Research in health policies and systems allows obtaining evidence to improve the nursing practice. Objectives: To describe the nursing students' perception about research in health policies and systems.
Methods: Descriptive study carried out in the period September 2016-September 2017. Research group of 58 Nursing students. A questionnaire was designed, validated and applied to collect information. We explored the variables training, usefulness of research, knowledge about research in systems and health services. The results were expressed in percentages. Six categories were identified from the qualitative analysis.
Results: 93.1 % of the students considered that research is necessary for providing care; 73.1, for directing nursing services; 91.3 %, for teaching; 72.8 %, for managerial decision-making; 74.1 %, for improving the quality of care; 94.8 %, for providing relevant care based on patient satisfaction; 58 %, for knowing the costs; while 87.9 % were not aware of the existence of research in health policies and services.
Conclusions: The students' perceptions show a positive assessment of research for providing care, and for teaching and management. The criteria regarding the usefulness of studies that assess satisfaction, quality and costs show a positive assessment concerning research in health systems and services, although students do not know of the existence of this field of research.
