ABSTRACT
Background. The bacteriological analysis of genital secretion helps isolate and identify the microorganisms responsible
for infection in the vaginal canal. The objective of this research was to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility of microorganisms
isolated from clinical cases of vaginal infection.
Materials and Methods. Consecutive sampling of 388 clinical cases of patients with vaginal infection who attended the
bacteriology service was carried out. Fresh analysis, Gram stain was performed and they were seeded in specific culture
media, as well as the Mueller-Hilton for sensitivity.
Results. C. albicans was identified in 6% of samples,
C. glabrata in 2%,
C. lucitaniae 1% and
C. tropicalis 1%;
S. aureus
6%,
S. epidermidis 5% and
S. haemolyticus 3%;
Enterococcus faecalis 6%;
Escherichia coli 25%;
Klebsiella pneumoniae
5% and in 36% of the samples other microorganisms were isolated. Isolates of
C. albicans, C. glabrata and
C. lucitaniae had
a 100% caspofungin sensitivity.
S. aureus was sensitive to gentamicin, levofloxacin, linezolid, moxifloxacin, nitrofurantoin,
oxacicline, quinuspristine, rifampin, tigecycline, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and vancomycin in 100%.
S. epidermidis
and
S. haemolyticus were 100% sensitive to linezolid, nitrofurantoin, quinuspristine, rifampicin, tigecycline.
Enterococcus
feacalis was 100% sensitive to linezolid.
E. coli and
K. pneumoniae were 100% sensitive to ertapenem and meropenem.
Conclusions. The genera
Staphylococcus, Candida and
E. coli were the most common isolates.
