ABSTRACT
Objective: To show the beneficial impact of metformin in women with polycystic
ovary syndrome and success in IVF in the Fertility Clinic of Baja California.
Material and Method: A randomized controlled clinical trial in women with
polycystic ovary syndrome, which were subjected to treatment IVF, from January
2015 to December 2015, in the Fertility Clinic of Baja California, in the Santa Rosa
de Lima Hospital. There were included female patients between 30 and 40 years old,
who were divided into two groups: one group were administered with Dabex (metformin)
500 mg oral with dinner; increasing gradually the dose of 500 mg weekly to
reach 1.5 g and Yasmin oral (3.0 mg drospirenone and 0.03 mg ethinylestradiol) every
24 hours for 3 weeks. The other group took oral Yasmin (drospirenone and 0.03 mg
ethinylestradiol 3.00 mg). SPSS (Statistical Analysis Software Package) 21 program was
used for statistical analysis.
Results: There were included 17 patients; there were no statistically significant in
terms of the characteristics of the patients studied differences. The patients with polycystic
ovary syndrome who took metformin (n = 8) obtained an implantation rate of
18.7% and a clinical pregnancy rate of 37.5%. Patients with polycystic ovary taking
contraceptive pills (n = 9) had 3.4% and 22%, respectively.
Conclusion: The administration of metformin improved the success of IVF in
women with polycystic ovary.
