ABSTRACT

Introduction: Buschke and Lowenstein's condyloma acuminata is a relatively rare, locally aggressive, verrucous carcinoma with a low-grade, slow-growing, exophytic clinical lesion considered to be a welldifferentiated squamous cell carcinoma with little likelihood of metastasis being called Buschke and Lowenstein tumor. Its location is anal or genital. Objective: To know the number of patients and the age of the treated, and to identify the treatment used. Methods: A retrospective audit of all patients with a histological confirmation of verrucous carcinoma of the penis over a 40 years period was carried out in the Department of Pathological Anatomy. The variables included were age and surgical treatment used. Results: During the study period, 9 patients with verrucous carcinoma of the penis were diagnosed. The average age of the patients was 42 years old. The most frequent reasons for consultation reported were a lesion in the penis of slow and non-painful growth. The information obtained from the examination of genitalia showed exophytic papillomatous lesions of "cauliflower" type in the penis with variable sizes and extensions. Conclusions: Verrucous carcinoma of the penis is infrequent. The therapeutic variants will depend on the extension and size of the lesion, and always trying to preserve as much as possible the genital aesthetics.
