Relationship among the epicardial fat volume and Coronary Artery Disease in patients with indication of coronary angiogram by multislices computed tomography

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the first causes of morbi-mortality in Cuba and the world. The association of several risk factors is known with the probability of suffering major adverse cardiovascular events. At the moment is suggested the association between the epicardial fat and CAD, but still there are contradictions that motivate to put in practice new methods and associations that would help to refute or to support this position.Objective: To determine the relationship among the epicardial fat volume (EFV) and CAD in patient with indication of coronary angiogram by multislices computed tomography.
Method: An observational, analytic, transverse study was carried out in the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery between January 2014 and March 2017. The images of 100 patients were analyzed that went to the tomography room service to performe a coronariography study by this diagnostic method. The coronary arteries were evaluated and the epicardial fat volume was measured. Wilcoxon test was used to compare median of EFV with the presence of EAC. Lineal regression model using the coefficient of Spearman was generated to evaluate the association between variables.
Results: The age average was of 54 years with predominance of female sex. The medium of EFV was of 87.7cm3 and their values were bigger in patient overweight and obese. The 47% of patients presented EAC and there was not significant association between its presence and VGE.
Conclusion: In the studied population was not found association between VGE and the presence of EAC.
