Hospital infection. Study of the chemical-bacteriological quality of water used for haemodyalisis in random group of health institutions

ABSTRACT
Haemodialysis Units are regarded as epidemiological risk areas of great importance for the high level of hospital infection, mainly due to the characteristics of the patients, the manipulation of the equipments, and the treatment itself. To control the quality of water in this system to ensure the standard of the service given. 1,169 random samples from five health centers were study during 2003 in Havana City, the techniques used were the normal Lab. procedures. 90.2% of the samples studied were not satisfactory neither from the chemical point of view nor from the bacteriological one; the correlation existing being highly significant. The bacterial isolations more frequent were BNF with 40.0, 36.0 and 30.0% of correlation in the antibiotypes (Bauer-Kirby method) of Pseudomonas spp., Acinetobacter calcoaceticus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa accordingly. The higher percentages of resistance in vitro to the antibiotics used were to tetracycline and chloramphenicol. This research makes obvious the necessity of reinforcing the attention given to disinfection procedures and the dynamic of work in this service.
