ABSTRACT
The Fitness Program is guided by parameters of excellence and enables candidates for daily work in Family Medicine.
Fitness Program candidates participate in a Family Medicine consultory rotation. Following this rotation, an interview is conducted to identify physicians expressing a vocation for pursuit of the Family Medicine specialty. During the Fitness Program’s 3-year duration, physicians-in-formation are accompanied by tutors who evaluate them continuously, who aid the medical students in decision-making, and who accompany students in the personal-growth process so that students can take responsibility maturely for the care of their own patients. Scenarios for practice include home visits, out-patient consultations, measures for chronic patients, palliative healthcare, seeing hospitalized patients, and geriatric institutional healthcare. On-going educational activities imprint the rhythm of learning as well as provide a cooperation-friendly environment that facilitates integration and team work. The physician is prepared to be a Family Medicine Professor, a thinker, and a leader in the specialty.
