ABSTRACT
Agenesis of the vermiform appendix is very rare condition, and was first described by Morgagni in 1718. Appendicular agenesis has a reported incidence of 1 in 100.000 laparotomies performed with suspicion of appendicitis. We present a case of a 12-year-old male patient with abdominal pain for the past 24 hours and clinical was clinically diagnosed with acute appendicitis. He underwent surgery and was diagnosed with type III appendicular agenesis, according to the Collins classification. We describe the case, clinical manifestations, surgery findings and patient follow-up.
Congenital absence of vermiform appendix is difficult to diagnose before surgery and most of the patients develop acute abdomen data as initial presentation. An exhaustive appendicular examination must be performed in these patients. Once trans-surgical is done, contrasted imaging studies must be performed during patient follow-up.
