ABSTRACT
Adipose tissue has initially been considered as an
energetic reservoir on which this understanding
has been profoundly broadened, giving it
increasingly a metabolic, endocrinological and
immunological role, mainly due to its correlation
in the pathological state to multiple major
morbidities of high prevalence and mortality.
Being perhaps the cardiovascular pathology the
main exponent of mortality in the epidemiological
profile of developed countries and of many
developing countries, special emphasis is placed
on the metabolic syndrome as one of the most
relevant morbid translations when studying
adiposity excess.
