Appendiceal mucocele

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The appendiceal mucocele refers to the cystic dilation of the appendicular lumen due to its obstruction and consequent accumulation of mucus. Aims: To present the case of an appendiceal mucocele. Case report: Female patient of 54 years with volume increase in lower right quadrant, pain, CT: complicated appendiceal process. It was decided to perform a laparotomy, where the omentum plastron was found with green gelatin material, a perforated appendix was identified in the middle third with mucoid material output. Right hemicolectomy is performed. Histopathological study with appendiceal mucocele report. Conclusion: The appendiceal mucocele is a rare condition. The surgeon must have the pathology in mind.
