ABSTRACT
Introduction: Giant cell tumor is a bone tumor containing stroma of multinucleated giant cells, which resemble the osteoclasts. Being commonly located at the end of a long tubular bone is generally reported in young adults. Its nature can be nature benign or frankly malignant. Cases in pediatric in pediatric patients are atypical, thus, its early diagnosis means a challenge even for specialists.
Case report: 10-year-old female who debuted with a unilateral, profound, progressive pain, in her right lower limb. Pain was exacerbated with the movement in ambulation and with extension and external rotation. Be managed with symptomatic treatment for four years. Before a reassessment, were able to integrate the etiological diagnosis using computed tomography, and subsequently confirmed by biopsy. She was treated surgically for tumor resection with curettage and functional restoration of the affected area.
Conclusions: This case demonstrates that giant cell tumors are not exclusive of adulthood or only located in long bones and, although uncommon, the suspected diagnosis must exist in the cases of chronic, continuous, unilateral pain of increasing intensity even in pediatric patients.
