ABSTRACT
Limb length discrepancy (LLD) is a frequent undiagnosed orthopedic condition that in idiopathic cases rarely affects quality of life of the pediatric patient, however, when the cause is an orthopedic condition, makes a need to predict final discrepancy and likely impact it will have.
Objectives: To know the severity of LLD in the most common orthopedic conditions of patients older than 10 years, as well as the required treatment and epidemiological aspects to contrast with the current literature.
Material and methods: Retrospective study of consecutive cases of patients older than 10 years at a reference center during the period 2008-2016.
Results: The most common diseases that condition LLD and the severity of their condition in mm were Legg-Calve-Perthes (23.3 mm), proximal femoral epiphisiolistesis (19.1 mm), sequelae of fractures (112 mm), tumors (51.5 mm) and sequelae of dysplasia of hip development (20 mm).
Conclusions: The early diagnosis of these diseases, avoiding later stages, will condition lower LLD compared to advanced stages; the treatment of sequelae of fractures and bone tumors should be customized according to the degree of affection of the LLD and the available hospital resources.
