ABSTRACT
Objective. To determine the distribution of ateroesclerotic lesions in the lower limbs and morbidity and mortality in the Specialty Hospital.Background. Peripheral arterial disease affects 15-20% of subjects older than 70 years; the prevalence is likely to be greater if we look to the asymptomatic subjects; it is greater in men and more severe in segyoung people. The mortality rate rises to 25% in patients with coronary heart disease. The lesions are more frequent in the femoropopliteal segment. The 50% of patients respond to the arterial hygiene measures.
Material and methods. A descriptive, ambispective and longitudinal cohort study was conducted, with consecutive sampling in the population of the Specialty Hospital with peripheral arterial disease of the femoropopliteal sector and tibial vessels, to those who arteriografic study were performed in our unit, from march 2015 to march 2018; the information was obtained from clinical records, analyzing the quantitative and qualitative variables, and demographic.
Results. The femoropopliteal segment was the most affected; mortality was greater in the man; the two predominated comorbidities were smoking and arterial hypertension.
Conclusions. The location of the lower limb ateroesclerotic lesions is equal to the reported in the international literature and the response to conservative management and the control of comorbidities could not be established for lack of a monitoring protocol established.
