Complications in the cataract surgery in the diabetic patients

ABSTRACT
Cataract in the opacity in the crystalline lens. It is treated though surgery. Diabetes mellitus is an endocrine disease whose immediate consequence consists of keeping high levels of blood glucose, it is an important risk factor in the appearing of cataract. Diabetic s patients surgical risk has diminished, but there are postsurgical complications. A descriptive study was carried out on these complications whish appeared in the diabetic patients, who were surgered out of cataract in the 3- month critical period after such surgery, from January 2013 to December, 2016, in the Ambulatory Medical Care Center at Carlos M.de Céspedes in Bayamo. The classification and diabetes mellitus progress time and type of postsurgical complication variables were analysed. The statistical processing was performed through absolute numbers and percentages. Out of 44 eyes, 37 were type II diabetic and out of them, 20 eyes were in progress for over 5 years; 18,18 % of them had complications, most of them, inflammatory sings. There was no posterior chamber opacity. The diabetic metabolic condition is much likelier to have postsurgical complications. It is necessary to increase knowledge about this topic in order to decrease these complications appearance and seriousness.
