ABSTRACT
Introduction: Resistance work is a fundamental indicator for managing physicalmilitary performance, since it has the quality of quantification and serves as a test to potentialities identify in physical work for the longest possible time, is a variable used to assess the possibilities soldier in war and peace time. Objective: To compare the results of aerobic endurance capacity in female military personnel located in mountain region and the Ecuadorian coast, in addition to describing some basic results of physical-military performance.
Methods: A simple random sample was selected from a representative sample of female military population in Ecuador (395 subjects), 124 subjects from coast region (-500 masl), and 271 subjects from mountainous region (+ 2 000 masl), subjecting to 3 200 m test (two-mile test), assessing their aerobic endurance capacity.
Results: The coast military obtained a mean in the test of 16'06.49'' and the mountain range average is 16'33.47'' (Difference: ≈27s), being this one significantly different (p = 0,003), with the highest average range established in the mountainous region (209.38) and lower average range in the coast (173.13). According to military grades of the personnel studied, the best values in grades obtained after the evaluation were obtained by majors (19.42) and the lower grades in corporal (19.04).
Conclusions: Although there are significant differences between military personnel in geographic regions studied in the aerobic endurance test, the highest percentage of military personnel complied with the norms demanded. It is recommended to reassess some aspects of physical-military training of female personnel, with emphasis of load individualization principle.
