ABSTRACT
Introduction: The Virtual University of Health aims to strengthen education, research and technological innovation through the intensive use of information and communication technologies. It is important to specify the challenges that must be assumed to achieve those objectives. Objectives: To determine which type of postgraduate course-on site or distancedoctors prefer to receive, and the main reasons for their preference. To specify the technology limitations that they have to receive postgraduate distance courses.
Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive, observational, research was carried out at Joaquín Albarrán Hospital. A total of 169 physicians were interviewed, who answered anonymously a written survey about what type of postgraduate course they prefer to receive, the reasons for their preference, and if they have technological deficiencies to develop them. The literature on the limitations and possibilities of distance education was reviewed. The results were compared with those found in the literature.
Results: 86.39% of the physicians prefer to receive postgraduate courses on site. The main arguments to prefer them are: "I interact better with participants and teachers" (81.50%) and that "it is the most useful modality" (57.53%). 33.13% reported having a lack of technology to receive distance courses.
Conclusions: Physicians prefer to receive postgraduate courses in the classroom modality. The main reasons for this preference are the fact that on-site course makes it possible to interact better with the participants and teachers and is the most useful course modality. About one third of the physicians express having some technological limitation to carry out distance courses.
