ABSTRACT
Introduction. Presentation of autoimmune hepatitis may be variable from a chronic liver disease to an acute or fulminant hepatitis. Acute onset of autoimmune hepatitis can mimic an acute viral, toxic hepatitis or an acute presentation. Aim. Determine the clinical curse of patients with acute presentation of autoimmune hepatitis. Material and methods. We enrolled adult patients with clinical symptoms, elevation of serum ALT ≥ 5 fold UNL; bilirubin level › 2 mg/dL, and simplified IAIHG score ≥ 6 points. In all patients most be ruled out virus infection, drug-induced, hypoxic and alcoholic hepatitis. We describe the clinical and biochemical characteristics, as well as management of these patients. Results. We include four patients, three women and one man with an age range from 51 to 61 years old. Most patients were female, one of them was completely asymptomatic at the moment of diagnosis, the main laboratory alteration was elevated ALT and bilirubin, all patients received double treatment with corticosteroid and azathioprin with clinical and laboratory improvement. Conclusion. Acute presentation of autoimmune hepatitis is an unusual presentation. In these cases the immunosuppressive treatment improve clinical and biochemical outcomes.REFERENCES
