ABSTRACT
Hernia surgery is one of the most frequent procedures done by
surgeons - pediatric and general surgeons. Hernias are sometimes
unusual because of the contents of their sacs. The General Surgeon
should know how to proceed when faced with this type of hernia.
Within this category we can include the Amyand’s hernia, De
Garengeot’s hernia, Littre’s hernia, Petit’s hernia, Grynfeltt-Lesshaft
hernia, Richter’s hernia, Spigelian hernia and Romberg’s hernia.
We report the case of a 75 years old patient with a history of surgical
procedure for placement of ventriculoperitoneal shunt to treat a
Hakim Adams syndrome. He seeks medical help, it refers increasing
volume at the right groin without accompanying symptoms. The
diagnosis of right inguinal hernia is established and corroborated by
an ultrasound of the region. Surgical management was decided. As
surgical findings were reported: hernia sac containing bowel loops
and ventriculoperitoneal shunt catheter. The hernia sac offers endless
challenges that require a General Surgeon for effective resolution.
