ABSTRACT
The use of anabolic drugs to enhance athletic performance is being increased in important form, not only in adult athletes but also in adolescents who dedicate themselves to the practice of a sport. We presented an overview of the anabolic drugs more used by the athletes; anabolic steroids and anabolic nonesteroids, we mention the main studies published in the United States of North America about the use of anabolics in adolescents. The collateral effects that can cause are detailed, indicating the form in that they are administered and its supposed mechanism of action. Finally, we concluded that it is very important for the professionals of the health, dedicated to the attention of the adolescent, to know the type of anabolic drugs that are being used and to recommend the suspension of such by the serious collateral effects that can cause in damage of the health of our adolescents.
