ABSTRACT
Minimally invasive techniques have developed importantly during the last decades due to technological advances. The aim of this article is to show the progress in percutaneous renal surgery and robotic surgery. In nephrolithotomy, renal access is obtained with fluoroscopic or ultrasound guidance to allow the introduction of an endoscope, and it has become the standard treatment for stones greater than two centimeters, with success rates reaching 80% and minimal morbidity. Traditional or robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery has now become an approach for different procedures in urology, with results similar to those of open surgery, but with cosmetic and recovery advantages. Various procedures are now performed routinely by this route, such as the radical prostatectomy, renal reconstructive surgery, total and partial nephrectomy, adrenalectomy, among others.
