ABSTRACT
There is a general belief that immune response
decrease with aging. This knowledge has been
based upon a limited number of studies involving few
individuals as well as studies on cell surface markers
and cytokines levels. Changes in percentage of
lymphocytes subsets have been described in
elderly individuals. Nonetheless, such changes
have frequently been found controversial. Trying to
elucidate this issue we studied lymphocyte subset in
101 clinically healthy individuals classified according
to SENIEUR protocol between 0 and 102 years of
age. Expression of lineage and function markers were
carefully determined. Taken altogether, our results
expressed and calculated by Pearson’s Coefficient
Correlation suggested that most immune system
functions do not diminish as age progresses.
