The medical complaint regarding the services of gynecology and obstetrics in Mexico, 2001-2015

ABSTRACT
Introduction: During the period 2001-2015 the National Medical Arbitration Commission (CONAMED) attended a total of 24,393 medical complaints which related to the gynecology and obstetrics service were 2,758 com- plaints, representing 11.3% of the global, occupying one of the first three places. Methods: Observational, cross- sectional, descriptive study of the medical complaint re- lated to gynecology and obstetrics services based on information obtained from the Automated System of Medical Complaints of CONAMED, with a period between 2001-2015. Results: The main diagnosis that originated the medical complaint was pregnancy, delivery and puer- perium with 1,084 complaints (39.3%), the health insti- tution with the highest number of complaints was the Mexican Social Security Institute with 1,640 complaints (59.5%), the main reason for the medical complaint was the surgical treatment with 1,204 complaints (28.4%), and of this complaint, the reason was the sequela after the surgical treatment with 296 complaints (24.6%), according to the modality of conclusion of the complaint was the conciliation 1,397 complaints (50.7%) and 253 complaints (9.2%) concluded in arbitration. Finally during the arbitration process of the 253 complaints concluded in; no conciliation / due to lack of procedural interest 113 complaints (44.7%), by arbitration award 87 complaints (34.4%), in friendly composition 27 complaints (10.7%) and in conciliation 26 complaints (10.3%). Conclusions: It will be necessary to study in greater detail which pro- blems are due to lack of process supervision, little ad- herence to procedural manuals and clinical guidelines, lack of material and infrastructure and insufficient personnel or excess fatigue.REFERENCES
